So you want to know a little more about me! Wonderful!
I am a third year graphic design student at Canadore College and I am excited by everything that is related to design. Do you know how for some, it’s the feeling of a hammer in their hands, the vibration of strummed guitar strings, or a well spoken word in literature that makes them feel excited and at home? For me it’s the way all the content fits on a page, how the elements all play together to create an innovating and well thought out idea, and how the colour, or lack of colour, brings the message across to the audience.
I am bilingual, equally fluent in both French and English, and I think that this reason alone has enabled me to see that there are two sides to everything. This view on life has had a very interesting effect on my designs and I think it will allow me to see things in detail, where before they were blurry.
Being a graphic designer is a little like being on stage. I was on stage as a singer/guitarist back in high school for a full three years. I like to compare being a graphic designer to being on stage. You have a message you want to express. On stage, you play a note on your guitar or adjust your beat to match the mood. For design, you choose the right font and utilize white space to show your idea. All this is subject to audience review. A bad design is playing a depressing minor chord as you sing about a loving relationship. You want to hit all the happy notes for that! And that is the way I view design. It is just another day up on that stage as I hit the right note of the song and play it just right.
All I know is that I am a very determined individual and, although the work is hard, I always do my best to push through until the very end. I’ve learned so much since I’ve started in the graphic design world that I want to continue to seek and find out everything about it. That is my goal, and will continue to be for quite some time.
